Vieux-Fort, Saint Lucia, March 19th, 2025 – Wakonté Books is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Misfit, a masterfully woven, time-bending novel by J.B. Bozie. Set for release in August 2025 under our Yute ‘Dem imprint, Misfit is a bold fusion of African mythology, historical fantasy, and futuristic sci-fi that reimagines the past, present, and future through an African lens.
Spanning centuries—from the enigmatic Binju civilization in 699 AD to the technologically advanced African nation of Geeces in 4300 AD—Misfit follows the journey of Mabu, a girl who stumbles upon an ancient, hidden society, and Kuzo, a teenager in a distant future who discovers his connection to a forgotten legacy. At the heart of their intersecting destinies lies the soul stone—an artifact powerful enough to preserve life or consume souls. As ancient magic collides with futuristic advancements, Misfit explores identity, power, and the eternal struggle between those who guard knowledge and those who seek to exploit it.
J.B. Bozie delivers a sweeping narrative that defies convention, offering a fresh and exhilarating take on speculative fiction. Rooted in African storytelling traditions and infused with contemporary themes of self-discovery, legacy, and resilience, Misfit is a powerful reflection of young people navigating a world shaped by history while daring to redefine the future.
Misfit will be available in August 2025. For media inquiries, review copies, or interview requests, please contact us at books@wakonte.com.
